How to Read Superhero and Marvel Comics

In the last few years, superheroes have become big business. Hollywood is turning out an increasing number of superhero movies featuring heroes both famous, such as Batman, and obscure, such as Ghost Rider. More and more people are becoming interested in reading comics, but going into their local comic book store can be an overwhelming experience. With so many different titles, it can be difficult to know which are the best superhero comics. Even after finding a title that appeals, getting caught on up the years of continuity can take a while.

Marvel Comics is one of the biggest comic book publishers in the world, and they have been publishing superhero comics since the late 1930s. The modern age of Marvel began in the early 1960s, when they first started publishing titles such as The Fantastic Four, The Avengers, The Uncanny X-Men, and The Amazing Spider-Man. This period is often known as the “Silver Age of comics” and featured the first appearances of many of the most famous superheroes ever created, including Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk.

The Silver Age is usually considered to have ended in the early 1970s, as many superhero comics took a turn towards somewhat darker and more realistic stories. Heroes were then faced with more realistic problems, rather than the grander and more cosmic foes which they usually confronted in Silver Age stories. Many comic book fans have recently begun turning back toward these classic Silver Age stories, and there has been an increasing demand for reprinted editions of these tales.

Marvel Comics and other major comic book publishers have made it easier for readers to catch up on these years of continuity by publishing many of their early titles in affordable reprint editions. These volumes usually collect a number of issues from a particular title so that fans can read them without having to hunt through comic book stores or online to find individual issues. These reprinted volumes are also much more affordable, since back issues of popular comics can be quite expensive.

Superhero comics have become an integral part of modern pop culture, and their popularity shows no signs of fading any time soon. As more and more people become familiar with these characters from their appearances in blockbuster movies, the demand for comic books featuring these heroes has risen. With these affordable reprint volumes, anyone can easily catch up on years of their favorite hero’s adventures.
